Karaoke Therapy by Laura Baran
2026-2023

Similarly to playing musical instruments, there are therapeutic messages in the sounds of release when I get to sing and dance through my emotions.

In the private space of a rented karaoke room, I find inspiration to rage, cry, and emote, using the touchstones of music and lyrics to connect with my inner world.

Each drawing serves as a snapshot of expressive glory, where lines of text in glowing light could represent cathartic breakthroughs.

Some lyrics are prayers, some are strong statements that cry out for expression, and all of it is political, as all art is.

These drawings of karaoke screens EXPLORE how Singing MY heart out, to lyrics on digital displays, feels Like It anchors my WELLBEING.
